A new game in the Vampire: The Masquerade universe is in the works

White Wolf Publishing, which in October was purchased by Paradox Interactive from CCP Games, has announced its next game project. Werewolf: The Apocalypse will take place within the World of Darkness universe, a setting best known among fans of video games for the cult classic Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines.

Werewolf will be a joint effort by Focus Home Interactive Partners and White Wolf Publishing. The game will be developed by Cyanide Studio, best known for Styx: Master of Shadows and Blood Bowl.

“The World of Darkness is a gritty vision of our own time,” said Focus Home Interactive in a press release issued today. “The world’s most devious conspiracies are true. The divide between the rich and the poor is huge and corruption is rife. In the shadows of our declining societies, humans fall victim to supernatural horrors, all struggling for control.”

Little is known about the nature of the game, but players are promised the ability to become a werewolf that is “opposed to urban civilization and supernatural corruption, and heading towards inevitable apocalypse.”

World of Darkness is home to several related franchises, including Werewolf: The Apocalypse and Vampire: The Masquerade. The later first debuted in 1991 as a tabletop role-playing game. In 2004, Troika Games developed an RPG called Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines for Windows PC. Published by Activision, it was critically acclaimed but left orphaned after Troika closed down. The game is still available on multiple online storefronts including Steam and GoG.
