Watch an extensive trailer for Battlefield 1’s bloody single-player campaign

It looks like an action film set in World War 1

Battlefield 1

EA and DICE have mostly focused on the multiplayer aspects of Battlefield 1 when promoting the game, but the title will also include a single-player campaign. You can watch the first trailer for that campaign below.

This looks ... good? It’s certainly not breaking much ground with the tone that emphasizes war is super bad while also emphasizing that some of the people who fight in it are heroes, but overall it seems to deliver what has been promised: It’s an action film version of World War 1.

"[World War I] changed our world more than I have ever known," EA DICE design director Lars Gustavsson told Polygon at Gamescom 2016. "There’s so many things, all the inventions — trenchcoats to zippers. All of the things we take for granted, from females actually going in to factories and being allowed to work. It shaped the world many times more than other events that I thought were more important to history. Maybe I’m naive, but if it was interesting to me, hopefully it will be the others."

Battlefield 1 will launch on Oct. 21 of this year on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. You can watch one of the game’s E3 trailers below.
