Samsung sunny towards IoT with dedicated Artik Cloud

South Korean tech giant Samsung announced – at the Samsung Developer Conference in San Francisco – plans to create Artik Cloud, a new service designed exclusively with the Internet of Things (IoT) in mind.

Samsung is a global technology and manufacturing leader, and the brand name has become synonymous with quality electronics over the past several decades – getting a reputation as a leading producer of smartphones and LCD televisions worldwide.

It has also been a consistent presence in the IoT world through products such as its Family Hub Refrigerator, a smart fridge with a large touchscreen and access to apps, news, and even a live camera inside the fridge in case you were curious if there was still some leftover pizza from last night.

This is in addition to the company’s line of wearables, join ventures to create IoT-powered experiences including VR rollercoasters, and a new OS made for the Internet of Things.

This makes it little surprise that the tech giant is making moves to further bolster its place as a leader in the growing Internet of Things (IoT) sector by offering a cloud service specifically for IoT devices.

Samsung’s Artik Cloud will be powered by AWS

Powered by Amazon Web Services (AWS), the Artik Cloud will provide third parties with a comprehensive solution for connecting different devices together. Unlike other cloud services which also handle IoT, Artik Cloud will be built from the ground up with a feature set optimized for the category.

Artik is the name given to an entire division of Samsung products and services that focus on IoT solutions. It is also used for whole line of small processors and wireless radios that are used in often small, portable IoT products.

It’s Samsung’s goal to turn the Artik brand into an all-in-one solution for IoT developers. It provides the hardware and now the software to help make the creation of new IoT technologies easier.
