Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. Well, we’ve got some updates, alright. Not a lot of them, and not exactly a lot of TouchArcade favorites, but they are what they are. It is pretty cool to see so many long-dead apps resurrected of late, if nothing else. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper or by participating in the TouchArcade forums, but this weekly summary is here to fill in the things you might have missed. Let’s dig in!
Shooty Skies, Free Shooty Skies, Shooty Skies, updates often? The developer tries. Saw that heroes were quite the thing, fit a bunch of ’em with some wings. Watch out, here comes the Shooty Skies. Timed appropriately for SDCC, this update adds some interesting new characters to the game called the Blooper Heroes. Wombatman, Amazazon, Man Spider (no hyphen), Black Window, and more join the game to battle nefarious fiends in the marvelous Mighty Games manner. Sure, why not?
Bubble Witch 2 Saga, Free The presumably evil witch Morgana has some wicked tricks up her sleeves. Actually, she’s just got 20 new levels of the same ol’ bubble-dropping puzzle action. It’s actually a rather good plan, if you think about it. Sooner or later, almost everyone stops playing these endlessly-updated puzzle games. When they do? Boom. Morgana wins. Way to go. The only way to stop evil from winning is to never, ever stop playing King’s games. Wait a tick, that doesn’t sound right at all!
Connectrode, Free Hey, remember Connectrode? In case you don’t, this unassuming little puzzle game has a really interesting story around it. You can search it out yourself, but suffice it to say, its creator gave up a lot to keep it around. That was many ages ago, however, and like the rest of us, Connectrode was starting to get some lines in its face. Its developer has come to its rescue, adding 64-bit support, increasing the difficulty of push mode, and switching the game to a free-with-ads model. Unfortunately, there’s no way to buy out of those ads as of yet. No word on if the developer is considering something like that, but he definitely should.
PAC-MAN, $3.99 It’s like that really good line that everyone quotes from The Dark Knight goes: you either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself collaborating with Hello Kitty. Alas, poor Pac-Man. I knew him, Clyde! Anyway, lock up your Avril Lavignes, Japan’s favorite cultural ambassador has arrived in Pac-Man. Near as I can tell, it translates to some limited-time Kitty-chan mazes. You won’t actually control Kitty herself, because one does not touch Kitty unless they are of noble birth. Are you? Just my luck, Prince Charles is reading this or something.
LONEWOLF, Free Lonewolf, or as his friends call him, Lonnie Wolf, has a very dark and mysterious past. So dark. So mysterious. Could be a Marvel character from the 1990s. Not literally, but you know what I mean. If you want to discover Lonnie’s past, you need to check out this latest update. A new chapter fills out his backstory while adding a bunch of new missions to the game. Due to his poor upbringing, Lonnie can really only speak with bullets. Lucky for you, he has some new guns to shoot those bullets from. To communicate. In BLOOD. 17+ NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN!
The Escapists: Prison Escape, $4.99 Ah, back to wholesome family entertainment. Escaping from prison, what could be more relevant to the kids, right? This update adds a new prison to escape from called Banned Camp, which is a delightful play on words. It’s like band camp, which is now conjuring up an image of Alyson Hannigan and a movie series that was beaten until it dropped dead, then was shot for food. Ha. Can’t believe he did that to that pie. Anyway, this update also includes support for Bluetooth gamepads. I’m giving it the UMMBRotW award since nothing this week is particularly worth an UMMSMotW award. That’s how it goes.
World of Tanks Blitz - Mobile, Free Let me hear you say this Blitz is bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S, this Blitz is bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S! Haha, I’m really letting fly with the pop culture references this week, aren’t I? Spielberg, you know how to reach me if you want any ideas for your next film. Apropos of nothing, World of Tanks Blitz just got its 4.0 anniversary update. It adds rating battles, some bonus containers with rewards, nine new French tank destroyers, some changes to Fort Despair, and more. Lots of people unhappy with this game lately. I wonder if they’ll be able to turn its rep around? Ehn, it’ll probably keep making money either way.
Amateur Surgeon 4, Free A Pocket Mortys cross-over? Well, that’s new. Anyway, during this limited event you can collect 10 special Pocket Morty surgery partners, operate on 6 different Mortys, and compete in a global tournament where you can win some nifty prizes. I feel like they really missed a chance here by not letting you operate on Jerry, but what the heck do I know? Only the secret to your hearts, friends, and that’s not terribly applicable here.
