No Comic-Con presentation is complete without trailers, and during their Hall H panel today Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures revealed the first look at the upcoming Kong: Skull Island. Directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer) and starring Tom Hiddleston, recent Oscar-winner Brie Larson, and John Goodman, the movie appears to serve as a revamped origin story for King Kong, with Hiddleston's character heading to the mysterious Skull Island on a personal mission — only to discover the massive beast instead. Suffice to say, it appears that things get very dicey from there.

Skull Island is reportedly intended to be part of Legendary's efforts to create a giant movie-monster universe, at some point expected to cross over with the studio's Godzilla franchise. (According to early reports, the mysterious Monarch organization mentioned in Gareth Edwards' recent take on Godzilla may be mentioned in Skull Island, and in fact Godzilla writer Max Borenstein is listed as one of the screenwriters on the film. With the movie scheduled to be released on March 10th, 2017, we'll no doubt be learning much more in the months to come, but for the moment the trailer is going to make plenty of people very happy.
